I obtained the BPhil and DPhil in philosophy at Oxford and did a Habilitation at Munich. I held a Heisenberg Research Readership from the German Research Council (DFG), a Golestan Fellowship at the Netherlands Institute of Advanced Study, and a Senior Research Fellowship from Collegium Budapest. Since 2007, I teach at the University of East Anglia. I have held visiting appointments at New York University, the University of Cambridge, and the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Philosophy of Science. I am a member of the peer review college of the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy.
I belong to the until now rather exclusive club of experimental philosophers with Wittgensteinian roots. My favourite problem is the problem of perception. My favourite philosophical authors are Berkeley and J.L. Austin. My favourite experimental method is eye tracking.
